09 Jul Alana Thomas
Alana Thomas played rugby at the highest level with the Australian Wallroos Women’s team as fly half, fullback and goal kicker. Post athletic career Alana, wanting to stay involved, gave back to the sport by taking up coaching. Having no real ambitions other than to impart knowledge and create opportunities to play Rugby Union, was fortunate enough to be a part of the Rugby Australia Female Coach Development Program.
Ignited by a real drive to challenge herself and her athletes, Alana was in 2017 named Rugby Australia Community Coach of the Year. In 2018, she was appointed as Head Coach of the inaugural Melbourne Rebels Super W team. Over this past year, Alana has worked with the Developing Players and Emerging Players programs which are effectively academies for players coming through the Rugby Pathway in Victoria. Now working as a Development Coach with the Wallaroos, Alana’s journey from athlete to coach has come full circle.
